Update: Message to FCUSD Families

BOARD BRIEFS

Last night at the Special Board meeting, the Board considered options for reopening secondary in-person options. Staff also updated the Board on school enrollment dates.

Enrollment for the 2021-22 school year has been extended to February 26. For more information, please visit: www.fcusd.org/enroll

Secondary school in-person reopening updates:

As you will recall, last week the Board directed staff to explore opening 6th grade, as the language in the January 14 California Department of Public Health Guidelines indicated that 6th grade could open once the COVID case rate fell below 25/100,000. Sacramento is now at that metric.

HOWEVER: On Wednesday, February 10  the Governor's Administration announced a Safety Review Process for schools and local educational agencies (LEAs) asserting that compliance with the January 14th K-12 Schools Guidance (Guidance) would mean offering fewer students in-person instruction than previously planned. 

***This allows school districts like FCUSD, already in a phased reopening status to apply for a waiver to reopen on-campus hybrid instruction for all grades, while in Purple Tier, and if the Safe Schools for All, Safety Review Request is approved.***

FCUSD has submitted the Letter of Intent and is in the process of submitting the required Safety Review Request application. More information and details will be provided at the upcoming Board meeting on February 18.

Why does everything take so long?

With the ever-changing parameters given to school districts by state authorities, we know this can be confusing and frustration.

This has been an arduous process for all. Students, teachers, staff, and leadership look to our governing authorities for guidance and are adapting to the changing and evolving situation while staying diligent, making sure all safety and health measures are in place and followed.

We are pleased that we have successfully brought back to campus, Elementary Hybrid, Special Ed Cohorts, and students in Expanded Care and Learning.

We are pleased to be able to continue offering Distance Learning for those families who choose this learning option.

We are not done. Many students who want to come back have yet to be allowed, and we will stay the course with the state process, to ensure safe on-campus learning is available for every student who wishes.
