Update: Message to FCUSD Parents with Students in Grades 3-8, 11
April 15, 2021
Dear Parent/Guardian:
As you may know, each year, students in grades 3 – 8 and 11, participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), a statewide assessment to determine student progress.
Given the disruptions caused by the pandemic, the California Department of Education (CDE) is allowing school districts an opportunity to use alternative state-approved assessments, other than the CAASPP for reporting student progress to the state. In order to determine what would be best for our District, FCUSD students, in collaboration with site leaders, recommended that a local assessment would be preferred to the CAASPP for this year. Given this feedback, FCUSD will be using the i-Ready diagnostic to satisfy state requirements, a state-approved assessment tool.
The i-Ready diagnostic is an online test that FCUSD students are familiar with and has been administered routinely for almost 6 years in our District. It is highly correlated to the CAASPP. Additionally, results from yearly i-Ready assessments provide valuable information to help identify gaps in knowledge or skills so that your child can get the support needed to be successful in school.
IMPORTANT: i-Ready assessments have been used at FCUSD for many years to support student learning by providing internal formative information for designing targeted learning strategies.
This year, your child will take the following test:
- i- Ready diagnostic for English language arts and mathematics in grades 3 – 8 and 11.
Please note: The administration window is April 19 to May 18, 2021. Your school site will communicate scheduling specifics so you and your students will be prepared.
Helpful tips:
You are an important part of your child’s education. To help your child get ready for the test you can:
- Talk about the test with your child. Make sure they are not scared or anxious.
- Tell your child that you and their teacher have high expectations and are both there to help, every step of the way.
- Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and nutritious breakfast before testing.
