FCUSD announces White Rock Elementary Assistant Principal, Nereida Cabrera 

Veteran educator and a familiar face at Folsom Cordova, Nereida Cabrera has been named as the Assistant Principal at White Rock Elementary. Ms. Cabrera has over 14 years of experience in education and has been a member of Team FCUSD since 2016.

Board adopts Resolution honoring FCUSD employees

Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) wishes to commend all employees for their unparalleled contribution to the lives of students.  Our employees continuously provide exceptional education, and work tirelessly to provide distinctive learning environments to meet the needs of all of our students.  Particularly during this pandemic year, FCUSD employees have demonstrated resilience, innovation, and unending dedication to students, and have gone above and beyond the already outstanding commitment they make during normal times. Attached is the Resolution adopted by the Board, recognizing and honoring FCUSD employees.

Student Board Member, Ally Gallant

The Board and District staff thanked Student Board Member Ally Gallant for her year of service, representing and amplifying the student voice. Her dedication to the position of Student Board member during this past year, the many Regular and Special Board meetings she attended, and her input to the Board and staff was invaluable during this year of change and challenge. Thank you Miss Gallant for your service.

Incoming Student Board Member, Alice Gao of Folsom High was announced, and we look forward to welcoming and working with Miss Gao next year.

Discussion and update on School Resource Officers (SRO)  

A summary timeline of discussions and events over the past year is as follows:

At the June 18, 2020, meeting, the Board approved School Resource Officers (SRO) agreements for the 2020-21 school year with conditions that at the start of the school year, staff bring back the agreements with amendments.

At the September 24, 2020, meeting, district staff reviewed the major responsibilities of SROs, incidents that require law enforcement contact, and amendments that were made to the contracts that focused on the roles and responsibilities of SROs and their relationship with students and staff. The Rancho Cordova Police Department provided a presentation on the various youth services that SROs provide, a brief biography of the three SROs assigned to schools in the City of Rancho Cordova, the role of an SRO, and some of the differences between an SRO and a Patrol Officer.

After discussion, the Board requested the following additional amendments:

  • Clarifying language for the district to suspend reimbursement of SROs in emergency situations.
  • Revision and language conformity for the number of SRO sick days.
  • District can increase/decrease the number of SROs if the number of incidents increase or decrease
  • Similar contract language in both MOUs

At the October 08, 2020, Board meeting, time was given to GENup to provide a presentation.

At the April 15, 2021, Board meeting, current cost and possible budget reductions for SROs were presented.

After discussion, the Board requested the following information:

  • What is the practical implication at sites if SROs were reduced or eliminated?
  • What kind of coverage would we be able to expect?
  • What are the response times?
  • What are we getting for the service?
  • Will the cities split the cost of one SRO or would the district have to pay the entire cost?

At the May 20 Board meeting, staff responded to Board questions and presented updates in a presentation, which is attached, that included results from the survey sent to secondary students, parents of secondary students and all staff during the week of May 10.

Budget Update: The Impact of the Governor's May Revise for 2021-22

Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Rhonda Crawford provided an update regarding the budget and impact of the Governor’s May Revise for the 2021-22 school year. Attached is the presentation which highlights adjustments to COLA and Proposition 98 funding.
