Dear Folsom Cordova Families,

As you know, our secondary students are in the process of choosing their elective classes for the 2023 - 2024 school year. You also may be aware that Folsom Cordova is experiencing a challenge in adequately staffing Spanish classrooms. This is a challenge not only for us but for school districts across the state. FCUSD is attending hiring fairs, not only in the state but throughout the nation. We are incentivizing with signing bonuses and diligently working to find qualified Spanish teachers.

This past year the District responded to this shortage by pivoting to online Spanish credentialed teachers and placing a variety of substitute teachers to fill the vacancies for Spanish classes at some of our secondary schools.

While our ultimate goal is to find qualified Spanish teachers for all secondary classrooms, our priority for staffing will be first for the high school level, so our students meet A - G requirements that will prepare them for careers and college after high school.

At the middle school level, and for the upcoming school year, we plan to offer alternate options, such as an online Spanish elective program. Priority for alternate options will go to students who have completed Spanish 1A. Due to staffing shortages we cannot guarantee all students will have an option to take Spanish in middle school.

As the situation continues to develop, and should this change, we will keep parents updated throughout the rest of this school year and into the summer.

We thank you for your understanding and patience.
