Board approves policy on Equity

Last night the Board approved a new Board Policy 0415 on Equity which states:

“The Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) Governing Board believes that the diversity that exists among the district’s stakeholders is integral to the district’s vision, mission, and goals. FCUSD acknowledges that complex societal and historical factors contribute to systemic inequities within the district. Therefore, FCUSD is committed to policy and practices for eliminating predictable opportunity gaps based on a student’s race, ethnicity, creed, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, geographic location, socioeconomic background, pregnancy, language, immigration status, or religion, or other characteristics and any other marginalized groups.”

Student presentation on culture and diversity

A special presentation was given by Pragya Praveen & Natalie Greene, students from Folsom High School who are leaders of the school’s Cultural and Diversity Student Council (CDSC). This student organization is committed to tackling issues of inequality and seeks solutions, so every student feels safe, welcome and included at school. A copy of their presentation is attached.  

Budget: Presentation of Unaudited Actuals

Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Sean Martin, presented the Unaudited Actuals Financial Report. This report will be submitted next to the county and state. Highlights of the attached presentation include:

• About 73% of our budget is tied to ADA (Average Daily Attendance)
• About 79% of expenditures this year are allocated to salaries* 
• *Typically, this percentage is around 84%, however, COVID relief one-time funding altered the percentage for this year 
• About 70% of funds go directly to Instruction and Instruction Related Services

Remembering September 11, 2001

Flags at FCUSD schools and District office were lowered to half-staff on Friday in remembrance of the loss of lives on September 11, 2001

Words cannot express our sadness for the loss and the trauma felt by those involved, and gratitude for first responders’ courage and sacrifice – for running toward danger to rescue and save those in harm’s way. As we reflect on two decades since the September 11 attacks, we are reminded of the profound changes that followed this unthinkable event and the importance of coming together as a nation and caring for one another. 

We will always remember.
