Update: FCUSD Board Briefs and Updates, Oct 8
October 8, 2021
Dear FCUSD Community: Please see today’s Board Briefs and Updates below.
Recognition of Character Education and Digital Citizenship
The Board adopted Resolution 10-07-21-10, recognizing October as Character Education and Digital Citizenship Month. FCUSD acknowledges that character development is, first and foremost, the responsibility of families, but that the efforts of faith communities, schools, and youth, civic, and human service organizations also play a vital role in fostering and promoting good character. We look forward to promoting school cultures that foster trustworthiness, respect, caring, citizenship, civic virtue, honesty, personal responsibility as well as making safe, ethical, and responsible decisions online. State announcement on COVID-19 vaccination
On October 1, 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a future mandate for California students to receive the COVID-19 vaccination in order to participate in in-person instruction. The COVID-19 vaccination would be added to the existing list of required vaccinations for schools in California.
No immediate impact to students: Gov. Gavin Newsom’s vaccine mandate for California students does not take effect until either January 1 or July 1, 2022, depending on FDA approvals, for children ages 12 and over.
FCUSD is committed to the safety and well-being of our staff and students. We are also obligated to follow state mandates, including the state’s Health and Safety Code 120335, which details which vaccines are required for students attending any California school, public or private.
FCUSD is also committed to keeping you informed. While the District encourages all eligible persons to get the COVID vaccine and will continue to provide resources and information for vaccination opportunities, including an upcoming vaccine clinic at the District Office on October 27, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (See attached flyer), FCUSD has no plans to mandate vaccination in advance of state regulations or legislation.
If you wish to express your questions and concerns for state-mandated vaccinations to the California Department of Public Health, you may access their portal HERE

Attendance coding change
If your student is on Quarantine Independent Study, you will notice the coding in PowerSchool has changed. As of Friday, October 8 school sites will no longer use the QII and QIC attendance codes. These will be renamed to QIS (Quarantine Independent Study).
As a reminder, QIS is an excused absence code and denotes when a student is not on campus due to quarantine.
