October 22, 2021

Below are the most current and timely District messages. To view all previous District messages, please refer to our Previous Updates section at the bottom of this page.

Dear FCUSD Community: Please see today’s Board Briefs and Updates, including information for attending high school drama performances, some taking place tonight and this weekend!

Public Hearing Notice: New Pacific Charter School – Rancho Cordova Petition

FCUSD received a petition from New Pacific School, to open a school in Rancho Cordova which is in the boundaries of the school district. Pursuant to California Education Code Section 47605(b) the governing board of the school district held a public hearing to consider the level of support for the petition by teachers employed by the school district, other employees of the school district, and parents.

The second hearing will take place at the upcoming November 18 Board meeting. A District report on findings will also be presented at the November 18 Board meeting for Board discussion.

Board Policy 5131.8: Mobile Communication Devices

After seeking further student and staff input, Board approved revisions to Board Policy 5131.8 regarding mobile phone use on campus. The updated language provides school site administration additional authority for monitoring cell phone usage and or placing a temporary ban of their use on campus. Expanded Learning Opportunities for students

Providing safe, supervised, and academically enriching programs for students to supplement the instructional day is a high priority. In FCUSD, there are many different Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) for students such as:

ELO for 1st and 2nd Grade: FCUSD students in 1st and 2nd grade have an opportunity for an expanded learning time that would extend their school day to 8:25 a.m. – 2:37 p.m., based on availability and facilities.

After School Education and Safety (ASES):  Students attending Title 1 elementary and middle schools may participate in this academically enriched program which provides after-school learning, movement, and supervision from the end of school day to 6:00 p.m.

Before and After Student Care:  Student Care provides quality before and after school care that is accessible, convenient, safe, and affordable. This District established program, which exists at 16 elementary school sites, is a place where the lives of students can be enriched both socially and educationally.

Note: many of our Student Care programs are impacted and have a waiting list.

Saturday School: Spanish Language School is offered on Saturdays at Rancho Cordova Elementary, to support English Learners (ELs) using academic intervention supports designed for emerging English Learners.

Immigrant Intervention School at Cordova Meadows Elementary: This program for students new to our country is designed to provide academic intervention and extra supports for emerging English language skills.

Summer School: A variety of programs, including remediation and enrichment, as well as credit recovery offered throughout the District, beyond the traditional school year.

IMPORTANT: FCUSD is committed to expanding these opportunities for increased access. The interest amongst parents and students for some programs is currently outpacing staffing and/or facility availability. To meet these growing needs, FCUSD is actively recruiting to fill staff vacancies and is looking at options for further expansion of facilities.

Enjoy a show and support Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)!
