Update: FCUSD Board Briefs and Updates, Nov 19
November 19, 2021
Dear FCUSD Community: Please see today’s Board Briefs and Updates.
New Pacific Charter School Petition, Staff Report, and Decision
At last night’s board meeting, a second public hearing was held, regarding the charter petition to establish the New Pacific Charter School that was submitted to the Board of Education on September 3, 2021.
The Folsom Cordova Unified School District staff presented its staff report and recommended findings of fact. Staff found areas of significant deficiencies in the petition, enough to recommend to the Board to deny the request.
Staff slide deck presentation of report findings
The Board voted to support staff’s request to deny the New Pacific School Charter Petition.
The proposed charter school may appeal the decision to the Sacramento County Board of Education within 30 days of the denial determination pursuant to Education Code section 47605, subdivision (k)(1)(A)(i). If the Sacramento County Board of Education approves the New Pacific School charter petition, it shall become the chartering authority.
Staff presentation on school safety
At the direction of the Board, a Safety Steering Committee was formed to examine elements that contribute to the physical, emotional, and mental safety of our students. The Safety Steering Committee was asked to provide at least two options to Superintendent Koligian and our Board of Education for how to best meet the safety needs of our students and staff.
The Committee consisted of 30 members, representing parents and students from each region, site administrators, classified staff, labor representatives, Cabinet members, and Board of Trustees, and held five meetings since the beginning of the school year to discuss and analyze school safety on our campuses.

As this was a discussion item on the agenda, no action was taken. The Safety Committee will continue to meet and bring forth additional information at future Board meetings. We will keep you informed as to when that will take place.
