Dear FCUSD Community: Please read the following message for important information and updates.

COVID Updates

There will be no COVID DX testing at CHS tomorrow, Thursday, Nov 11.

The CDC has now authorized people ages 5 years of age and older to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.  Students are NOT required to receive this vaccine at this time.  However, if you choose to vaccinate your child, please provide a copy of your child’s vaccination record to your student’s school site. This will be added to their health record and will assist us in our contact tracing efforts. 

Fully vaccinated individuals who remain asymptomatic after an exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 are not required to quarantine.  People are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19 two weeks or more after they have received the final dose of Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.  If symptoms do develop, isolate, test, and contact health care providers because breakthrough cases can occur. 

School attendance

Thursday is Veterans Day and a school holiday. All schools and offices will be closed. We want to thank the many men and women of the military, as well as their families, who have served our country.

IMPORTANT: School will resume Friday, November 12 as regularly scheduled.

Monday, November 15

There have been messages circulating on social media, encouraging students and teachers to protest the Governor’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate by not going to school on Monday, November 15. 

We understand that families and students may have strong emotions and questions about COVID-19 safety measures, including vaccine and testing requirements. However, keeping children home from school to protest a COVID-19 vaccine requirement announced by Gov. Gavin Newsom, would only result in lost learning time for students.  

Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Our District has no control over the proposed COVID vaccination requirement and if passed into law, would treat the COVID-19 vaccine similarly to the 10 vaccines on the list already required by California law for students attending K-12 schools. This vaccine mandate for California students would not take effect until either January 1 or July 1, 2022, depending on FDA approvals, for children ages 12 and over. As a reminder, FCUSD has no plans to mandate COVID vaccination in advance of state regulations or legislation.
