Cyber Safety Workshop - how to keep youth safe online
Over summer break and all year long, we want our youth to be safe and free from harmful interaction when engaging online. Whether on social media, direct messaging, gaming devices, cell phone apps, or computers, many parents are unaware of current trends and dangers affecting our youth.
In May presenters, SRO Bates, Folsom PD, Detective Hirota, Sacramento Sheriff’s Office, Special Agent Thomas, Homeland Security, and MFT, Kelly Richardson shared valuable information that included:
- Internet addiction and screen time
- Digital platforms popular with kids
- Real life scenarios happening in our area
- How to live with social media safely
To view the recorded presentation in its entirety, please click HERE
You can enable closed captioning in both English and Spanish
Additionally, attached to this email are several helpful documents with information and resources parents can use for keeping their children safe online. FCUSD School Safety Measures
Recent events in our country of unimaginable violence have many people concerned about and questioning school safety. At FCUSD we take the safety of our students and staff with the utmost seriousness and have several measures in place, including:
- All classroom doors are to remain locked during the school day
- Direct communication with families from the site principal and District leaders in emergency and non-emergency situations
- Internal emergency communication platform between staff and law enforcement
- Cameras at school sites
- School Resource Officers
- Campus monitors and/or yard supervisors at all sites
- District Coordinator of Safe Schools
- Community Safety Specialist
- School safety plans for each school site
- Mental Health Professionals response team
- Visitor and volunteer protocols for on-campus access
- Threat assessment protocols
- Emergency response drills including:
- Active shooter lockdowns
- Fire drills
- Evacuation drills
Over the last year, we formed the District Safety Committee to evaluate current safety practices and make recommendations for further enhancements. As we move forward, we will be considering ways to improve safety on school campuses and will communicate our progress with our community.
