Dear FCUSD Community,

Highlights from last night’s board meeting are below.

Local veteran presented honorary high school diploma

In 1948 when Robert Burns was 17 years old, he left his studies at Cordova High to join the WWII effort. He later became a highly decorated Lieutenant Colonel in the Army and served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars.  Last night he received an honorary high school diploma from the Board. New FCUSD Vision and Mission Statements

The Board adopted new Vision and Mission statements to better reflect District goals and priorities. They are as follows:

Vision Statement:

Empowering all students to thrive through educational excellence. 

Mission Statement:

FCUSD is committed to providing excellence in educational programs that carry high expectations for each student's success. In collaboration with our community, the mission of FCUSD is to ensure all students demonstrate high levels of learning through our commitment to continuous cycles of improvement, transformative social emotional learning, and engaging, culturally responsive instruction.

New Leadership named at the June 23 board meeting

Three new leaders were announced and welcomed for the 2022-2023 school year.

• Suzanne Borth: Assistant Principal, Kinney High School/Prospect Community Day School
• Amanda Turkes MSN, RN: Coordinator of Health and Wellness
• Kristina Royer: Director, Special Education

Two Charter School Petitions were presented

Charter School Petition to Establish Design Tech High School and Staff Report

Board heard charter school petition to establish Design Tech High School as well as the Staff Report of findings and recommendation. Below are copies of the reports, presentations, and findings.

As this was the second public hearing, the Board discussed and voted. Board approved the Charter School’s petition with the condition that MOUs between the school and the District are agreed upon and signed.

Public Hearing: Charter School Petition to Establish New Pacific School - Rancho Cordova

Board heard the Charter School Petition to establish New Pacific School. This was their first public hearing. At the second public hearing on August 25, Staff will provide a response. Below is their presentation.

Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) program for young men of color

Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) is a non-profit organization that works to support young men of color in school districts throughout the region who face systemic barriers that make them more likely to get behind their peers in grade-level learning, and less likely to graduate from high school and meet college entrance requirements. 

IYT creates mentoring and wrap-around support services beginning in 7th grade and following students through high school and into college. IYT strives to positively impact the educational experience and ensure the success of young men of color. FCUSD launched IYT this school year which served and supported 60 students at Cordova High, 20 students at Mills Middle, and 20 students at Mitchell Middle. A presentation was given to recap the first year highlight the success stories of this year, and share the focus of their work next year at these three schools..
