Update: Welcome Back Message from the Superintendent
July 27, 2021
Greetings FCUSD Family:
I hope you all have had a wonderful summer and took time to relax, recharge, and spend time with family and friends. It is with great excitement that we prepare to welcome our students back to campus this August. I am personally looking forward to seeing our students together again and our classrooms abuzz with innovation, creativity, and learning. I am also excited to welcome students and their families starting at our newest schools, Mangini Ranch Elementary, and Innovations Academy! This is an exciting year. Not only is our District expanding with two new schools, we are starting the school year with in-person, five days a week, full-day classes.
As a reminder, the 2021-2022 school year begins on August 11, 2021
Our theme this year centers on how social emotional learning (SEL) can serve as a bridge to educational equity. Our entire community was met with unique challenges this past year – the 2020-21 school year was a year of change for many of our students – but we remain committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional health of all students. Our goal is to provide a safe and welcoming environment that cultivates curiosity, encourages ingenuity and helps students thrive in their educational journey.
As part of that goal to provide a safe and healthy environment for all, FCUSD will continue to follow all requirements from public health, including the most recent California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidance for schools, which states that all students and staff must wear face coverings indoors on K-12 sites, regardless of vaccination status, unless medically exempt. I know that guidelines may change throughout the year, and we may need to pivot and adapt in the future as our state and local health guidelines evolve. An FAQ regarding the latest COVID-19 updates will be forthcoming from our Communication’s Office.
As we return to school in August, I challenge us all to make connections – with our students, colleagues, and families. We have many new faces in FCUSD to greet and welcome, and we will finally have a chance to reunite with many of whom we haven’t seen in person for a very long time. I am confident that the lessons we learned from the past 18 months, and the resiliency we’ve developed have made us stronger and better prepared for whatever challenges may come our way. I am also optimistic that our rhythms and routines will begin to feel more steady as we return to school. Lastly, I want to acknowledge the dedication of the entire FCUSD staff who have worked so diligently over many months to prepare for the school year, to our parents and families who are integral to student learning, and are valuable partners in education, and most importantly, to the students of FCUSD who are at the center of all we do.
Warm Regards,
Sarah
