Important: FCUSD COVID update

Dear FCUSD Families, Staff and Students:

Our community is seeing rapid increases in COVID positive cases, which is causing many staff and students to be out sick or quarantined. The increased absences are placing a heavy strain on the system, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to staff classrooms, keep up with the high volume of contact tracing and fill absences for the many important staffing positions that keep a school running.

As conditions change, temporary classroom or school closures may be necessary in response to staff shortages or as advised by county health officials. 

FCUSD has implemented extensive safety measures in all of our schools, and we remain committed to providing in-person learning. We have no plans to return to long-term, district-wide distance learning as we experienced last year. However, until the surge of the pandemic abates, we need to make modifications as to how we operate.

If you or your student is sick or has COVID-like symptoms, it is important that you stay home and contact your medical provider.

Contact Tracing

We are expanding communication to be more streamlined and efficient. After hearing from our local health officials and with the rise in cases across our schools right now, we are also making changes to how we notify families when a positive case is reported at a school site. Currently only those who are identified as close contact exposures are notified.  

Going forward, all students who share a classroom with a COVID-positive individual will be notified. Should you receive one of these alerts, we strongly encourage you to consider having your student tested for COVID-19 and closely monitor for the development of any symptoms. 

Quarantine guidelines

In accordance with recently updated quarantine guidelines, from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Sacramento County Department of Public Health (SCPH) and in conjunction with the revised notification process, when the school receives a report of a positive case, the following criteria will apply to the entire class as follows:

  • If your child was exposed and is fully vaccinated (2 COVID-19 vaccine doses) and asymptomatic, they may stay in school. Testing is strongly encouraged at day 5 after exposure.
  • If your child was exposed and is not fully vaccinated and remains asymptomatic, they may stay in school but will need to get tested immediately and on Day 5 in order to mitigate the potential for further spread.

Testing Options for Students and Staff 

  •  Home Test Kits
  • Medical Provider
  • Community Testing Sites: Access testing at one of the many community testing sites listed at the Sacramento County COVID-19 Testing Sites.
  • COVID Dx - obtain information from your school site health office. 

 We need your help in order to maximize the number of students learning in-person in a safe and healthy environment. 

  • Please consider getting vaccinated if you are eligible. The vaccine is available to anyone five years of age and older. 
  • Continue to practice all safety measures such as mask-wearing, and frequent hand washing.
  • Do not come to school if you are sick
  • If you are symptomatic, please get tested and do not come to school
  • If you have been exposed to a COVID positive individual, please get tested  
  • Contact your medical provider if you are sick

We hope to return to a less restrictive environment soon and expect to have additional updates by the end of the week on important public health topics. Thank you for your support and cooperation in keeping our schools safe for all.
