FCUSD Message to the Community, Feb 16
February 16, 2022
Dear FCUSD Community:
The COVID-19 Dashboard has been updated. Please visit: www.fcusd.org/COVID
Masks: At this time, we have no update from the California Department of Public Health
The state’s public health decision to require masking in schools until a review on February 28 has created frustration and confusion here at FCUSD, in our area, and across the state.
Our obligation is to comply with the law. As we shared on Monday, FCUSD, its board members, leaders, staff, and teachers do not have the legal authority to overturn, ignore, change, or not enforce this state mandate. At this point in time, all California school districts must adhere to the masking requirement.
Our primary duty is to make sure all students are safe, and campus activity remains orderly. While students are on campus, we are able to monitor their well-being and classroom instruction continues to take place without interruption.
We understand the frustration of students and parents who are tired of masks and urge our community who are frustrated with lawmakers to appeal to the proper authorities. If you wish to express your questions and concerns for state-mandated health orders to the California Department of Public Health, you may access their portal by clicking on this link HERE
Despite these temporary challenges, we are optimistic for the future. The state has indicated strongly that masking restrictions will end in a matter of days. We are seeing COVID numbers decline and regular operations returning to what they looked like before March 2020.
Our north star continues to be on student learning in safe environments, and we deeply appreciate your partnership in education and your patience.
