Dear FCUSD Community:
Please see the summary of last night’s Board Meeting below.
Recognition of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day Art Contestant Winners
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Day is an annual event on the 2nd Friday in March to showcase, promote, advocate, and support social-emotional learning in schools and communities across the world. FCUSD’s SEL/Equity department hosted an art contest in which students were asked to create pieces demonstrating the importance of SEL. Over 150 entries were submitted and the winners from each grade level were honored at the Board meeting.

All-Day Kindergarten approved, phased in over the next two school years
As the District considers the implications of extending Kindergarten to an all-day schedule, considerations were made for facility space, staffing requirement, and impact on the budget.
Staff presented the findings of their analysis, to view the presentation please click HERE.
Starting in the 2022-23 school year, all Title 1 elementary schools will implement a full-day Kindergarten. These schools include: White Rock, Cordova Meadows, Cordova Villa, Williamson, Rancho Cordova Elementary, Cordova Gardens, Peter J. Shields, and Navigator.
In 2023-24, all elementary schools will implement full-day Kindergarten throughout the District.
More information will be provided in the upcoming weeks.
Elementary early/late schedules, moving to full day for 1st and 2nd grades
FCUSD schools have had a tradition of early/late schedules for 1st and 2nd grades. To analyze options, this year nine of twenty-one elementary sites entered into the full-day pilot for these grades. A before and after school BASE program was offered at sites that did not pilot the full-day schedule for 1st and 2nd grade, staffed by paraprofessionals. A thorough examination of this pilot year, survey results from staff and families and reading and math assessment data was conducted. Staff presented these findings to the Board. To see the staff’s full report of the data, findings, and analysis, please click HERE.
After careful consideration, the Board approved to launch a full-day schedule in all elementary schools for 1st and 2nd grade beginning in the 2022-23 school year.
Classified staff MOUs approved for additional compensation
To recognize and honor the extraordinary contributions of our Classified staff and affirm the District's appreciation for their efforts as we have been working through the COVID-19 pandemic, staff will receive a one-time monetary compensation. Additionally, to attract and retain the best Classified staff for summer school and extended school year programs an agreement was reached to increase compensation.

Community Schools Planning Grant
Folsom Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD) recently submitted a one-year planning grant for $200,000 to explore a Community Schools model for Rancho Cordova. Grant notification will be at the end of May 2022. Community Schools partner with local non-profit agencies, colleges and universities, medical service providers, and local governments to align community resources to improve student outcomes. These partnerships provide an integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement.
