At last night’s Board meeting, the Folsom Cordova Student Advisory Board (SAB) members reported on their first Folsom Cordova Student Summit held via Zoom, and shared results of a survey they sent to all middle and high school students. Please see the attached presentation sharing the results of the student survey.
Approval for SRO contracts for upcoming year
Board Approved agreements to continue the current School Resource Officer (SRO) agreements for the upcoming year. To view the agreements for both the City of Folsom Police Department and Sacramento County Sheriff's Office please visit the links below:
Coordinator of Safe Schools announced
Darrell (DT) Martin was announced as the District’s Coordinator of Safe Schools. Mr. Martin comes to us with many years of experience in law enforcement and as a high school teacher. His role will be to work with the District and school site Administrators to ensure effective strategies are in place to provide a safe school environment for all students, staff, parents, and the community, and will interact as a liaison between the District and law enforcement.

Rancho Cordova Elementary Principal announced for 2022-23 school year
Anna Chitwood will take the lead as Rancho Cordova Elementary Principal next year. With 31 years of experience in education in both public and private schools, Ms. Chitwood has been a teacher of several elementary grades and administrator at multiple schools. She believes that learning success is built on a “student-centered environment, where staff, parents, and students respectfully and effectively collaborate and communicate about the quality education all students are receiving.”

Budget for 2022-23
Board approved staff’s recommendation on Budget Assumptions and Allocations for the 2022-23 school year budget. To see staff's presentation, please click HERE. Supporting documents include:
A-G Completion Improvement Grant approved
The A-G Completion Improvement Grant Program was established to provide for one time funding to county offices of education, school districts, charter schools and state special schools to provide additional supports to local educational agencies to help increase the number of California high school pupils, particularly unduplicated pupils, who graduate from high school with A-G eligibility. At last night’s meeting, Board approved the grant. To view the presentation with further information, please click HERE.
Consideration for in-house counsel
Staff presented an analysis of the District’s legal cost and usage to determine if in-house counsel would create a financial savings and/or benefit.
The presentation, which can be viewed HERE, included historical cost for legal services by district department and areas where there is high cost and commonality of needs. Staff also looked at the type of legal services used, compared with neighboring districts. At this time, the Board did not approve pursuing in-house legal counsel.
Updates on Innovations Academy K-12 Virtual School and Mills Middle School
Staff presented an update on the first year for FCUSD’s newest school, Innovations Academy, which provides 100% online education for grades K-12. Highlights included:
- Nearly 300 students enrolled currently
- PTA has been established
- Growth allows for enrollment to be 425
Mills Middle School presentation was given by members of the school team. Highlights included:
- Diverse population
- 34% are English Learners
- STEM programs
- Successful positive culture and behavior programs
Mental Health Counseling and Referrals Update
Staff presented an update on Mental Health Counseling and Referrals which provided data collected by the staff of Folsom Cordova Unified School District on counseling sessions, referrals, interventions, and risk assessments. Additional data from Sacramento County, California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), and Care Solace was presented.
