Update: Message to FCUSD Secondary Families

May 10, 2021

Dear FCUSD Parents of Secondary Students,

Taking direction from the Board, the District is gathering feedback from FCUSD stakeholders regarding school safety. A similar survey is being sent to middle and high school students, as well as all FCUSD staff.

Please read below for important information before responding to the survey.

FCUSD’s current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is for six School Resource Officers (SROs). In Folsom, the SROs are members of the Folsom Police Department. In Rancho Cordova, the SROs are members of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. There are three SROs in Folsom and three SROs in Rancho Cordova. The total cost is $595,498.

If we continue with this model, the cost for the 2021-22 school year will be $810,000. District staff has proposed three options to pursue.

1) Reduce the number of SROs from 3 to 2 in each city

2) Reduce the number of SROs from 3 to 1in each city

3) Do not renew any MOU for SROs for the 2021-22 school year

As we explore options for being fiscally responsible the District is committed to ensuring student safety, both physical and emotional. Therefore we are gathering feedback from our stakeholders as we evaluate the impact of the SRO program.  Please take a few minutes to respond to the following questions.
