Information for Families on Immigration Rights

Posted: Thursday February 20, 2025

We know that with changes in leadership at the national level, some families may feel uncertain.
Please know that The Folsom Cordova Unified School District is committed to ensuring every child, no matter their immigration status, receives a free, safe, and welcoming public education.

Here’s what you should know:

We have policies in place to continue safeguarding the privacy rights of student and family information and records, including how to respond to law enforcement, which includes immigration law enforcement.  You can review the policy here:

  • Board Policy 5145.13: Response To Immigration Enforcement
  • Administrative Regulation 5145.13: Response To Immigration Enforcement

The District will not solicit or collect information about the citizenship or immigration status of students or their families, nor will it assist with immigration enforcement at school sites, except as required by state or federal law. Board Policy 5145.13 and Administrative Regulation 5145.13 reflect our dedication to providing a supportive, inclusive environment where all students feel valued and respected.

If staff receive any verbal or written request for information regarding a student’s or family’s immigration or citizenship status, they are required to abide by the educational rights of the students and their families and not disclose information or provide access to students absent valid legal authority.

  • If an immigration officer approaches staff during school time, direct them to the Principal or school personnel about the information request
  • If an immigration officer approaches staff during school time to inquire about a student/family’s immigration status, staff will not release information unless directed by a court order or judicial warrant.
  • Staff will provide students and parents/guardians with any documents provided by the immigration officer unless such disclosure is prohibited by the court order, judicial warrant, or subpoena.

We are here to support every student and their family to continue accessing their educational program.
