    Secondary schools reopening updates

6th-grade students are back on campus

All 6th-grade students are allowed to be in-person for Hybrid learning, per the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Mills Middle and Mitchell Middle students in Group A will return to campus on Tuesday, March 16. Students in Group B will return to campus on Thursday, March 18. Specifics from each school will be shared with families and students directly. Folsom Middle and Sutter Middle 6th-graders will continue coming to campus in the Hybrid model.

It was exciting to welcome back 6th-graders to campus last week at Folsom Middle and Sutter Middle. To see pictures of what this looked like, please visit our Facebook page here

7th - 12th-grade students return to campus update

As of this message, we have not received notice of our application to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to return 7 - 12 grades for in-person learning while we remain in Purple Tier. Fortunately, all indications are that the county will be announcing a move to Red Tier Status by next Tuesday, March 16. Guidelines allow us to reopen the day after being moved to Red Tier. Therefore we are planning to reopen our secondary schools for grades 7 – 12, on Wednesday, March 17.

Pending our move to Red Tier status, Hybrid return to campus next week will be:

    • Students in the A Group will come to campus on Wednesday (3/17)
    • Students in the B Group will come to campus on Thursday (3/18) and Friday (3/19)
    • Students in the D Group will continue Distance Learning

All students will follow the same Hybrid Bell Schedule beginning Monday, March 15

REMINDER: The Hybrid Bell Schedule is the weekly schedule of classes that all students will follow, whether they have chosen in-person or full Distance Learning.

The District is excited to see students from 7th - 12th grade back on campus! To see what a day in the life of our secondary students, and the safety measures in place, please watch this video, narrated by Student Board Member Ally Gallant.

The purpose of this event is to provide a brave and safe space for our Hispanic families and allies to build community and to facilitate advocacy, agency, and activism for our Hispanic students. Read Across America: Read along with Dr. Koligian!

The District enjoys celebrating Read Across America in March, a chance to highlight books and the joy of reading. Oak Chan Health Assistant Brit Renshaw was impressed with the book All Are Welcome and reached out to our Superintendent, Dr. Sarah Koligian who read the story out loud so we can all enjoy it.  According to Renshaw, “This book has been on my radar for a bit, enjoying it because of its touch on diversity and inclusion. What pushed me over the edge to reach out to Dr. Koligian is the fact that this book was just nominated as a CYRM nominee (California Young Reader Medal),

Thank you, Ms. Renshaw and Dr. Koligian! Now, please sit back watch here and enjoy reading along to All Are Welcome!

    Vaccinations for education

We want all FCUSD staff to be safe and feel safe. The District’s Health Department teamed up with Sacramento County Public Health (SCPH) to offer our staff the COVID vaccine at two clinics. See what that looked like here!

Additionally, District communication continues to inform staff of vaccine clinic opportunities throughout the area so all staff has an opportunity to be vaccinated if they wish.
