Update: Message to the FCUSD Community
January 27, 2021
Dear FCUSD Community: Please see today’s updates.
Winter storm causes power outages in some schools
The storm last night has left some of our schools without internet or power. If your school was affected by the storm, your principals will notify you of any scheduling changes.
COVID-19 Dashboard updated for Jan 27
Please visit: www.fcusd.org/COVID to see the current numbers of positive cases and quarantines. Next update will be Wednesday, February 3
Secondary schools reopening status
The Folsom Cordova Unified School District is eager and committed to bringing back our middle and high school students to campus, in a hybrid model, as quickly and safely as possible.
Why are middle and high school students not in-person learning now?
We, like all school districts in Sacramento County, are currently in a holding pattern for reopening until the County is moved from Purple Tier to Red Tier.
As you may remember, on December 17, 2020, the Board approved the reopening of our middle and high schools to align with the California Department of Health (CDPH) directives for reopening schools, which included a two-week waiting period once Sacramento County has been moved to Red Tier status.
On January 14, the CDPH released updated guidance for reopening K-12 schools, which includes the requirement for districts to post a COVID Safety Plan (CSP) on all school sites, and an opportunity to reopen after five days in Red Tier status if all requirements for the school checklist have been met. To view the entire document, please click here.
We are currently complying with all guidelines to meet the new CDPH deadlines.
***These new CDPH guidelines, including those which allow us to reopen middle and high schools after being in Red Tier for five days, will be brought forth at the upcoming board meeting on February 4.***
Our commitment to safely reopening our schools has been an ongoing effort since the beginning of the school year. A quick recap of highlighted dates and decisions are below.
Timeline highlights of decisions and action:
- September 8: In-person, Expanded Learning and Care opens for Students with Unique Needs and children of essential FCUSD staff.
- September 24: Board approves the Roadmap to Reopening, District’s comprehensive and phased plan to reopen schools as soon as safely possible and in accordance with guidelines provided by local and state health authorities
- October 19: Small Cohorts of students with special needs opens for in-person instruction.
- October 22: Board approves to equip all middle and high schools with advanced technology for simultaneous instruction.
- November 6: Board approves to move middle school reopening to match high school reopening date of January 4, 2021
- November 9: Hybrid Elementary opens for in-person instruction
- November 13: Sacramento County moves back to the more restrictive Tier 1 Purple
- January 14: California Department of Public Health (CDPH) releases new guidelines for schools reopening
We appreciate the many thousands of staff, students, and families who are collaborating with us as we have redesigned dramatically different and educationally excellent options for all FCUSD students, amidst the unprecedented challenges of a pandemic. We will continue to pursue all options with diligence and optimism.
