    American Literature
    AP English
    Language and Composition

The AP English Language and Composition course is designed to help students become skilled readers of prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts and to become skilled writers who can compose for a variety of purposes. By their reading and writing in this course, students should become aware of the interactions among a writer’s purposes, audience expectations, and subjects, as well as the way generic conventions and the resources of language contribute to effective writing. This course is taught in conjunction with American literature at 11th grade.

Students are expected to take the AP exam at the end of the academic year and need to informa me if they decide not to take the exam. A final AP-style exam will be given to students who do not take the exam, so I can have data on their learning, like the AP exam gives us.

    STUDY GUIDE, 2018-2019

This study guide text is due in class by November 1st.

Please see me ASAP if you won't be able to get the study guide by that date. These study guides work best if you write in them, tear out pages, etc. I can provide for students if you don't want a personal copy, but I need to know well in advance, and you will not be allowed to write in it.

Please let me know within two weeks of class starting if you cannot get the study guide--this will give me time to get you one.
