Early release days as well as before and after school are my planning time. I do not do quick conference times at the door/gate. I am happy to schedule a conference meeting with you.
- Absences: Please use the district website to report absences
- Classroom Volunteers: I am happy to have parent volunteers. There are plenty of opportunities to work with students in the classroom, prep lessons and materials for lessons, and to organize Wednesday Folders. All volunteers must be cleared through the office. Contact the office to obtain the volunteer paperwork.
- Independent Studies: Contact the office at least a month before the date you will need an independent study.
- Late arrivals or picking up early:Check your child in and out of the school office.
- Snack Recess: Please pack a healthy snack for your child each day.
- Classroom Rules: We follow The 5 Be’s: be safe, be responsible, be respectful, be on task, and be kind. Be sure to read the Theodore Judah parent handbook for school rules. https://www.fcusd.org/cms/lib/CA01001934/Centricity/Domain/23/ParentStudentHandbook.pdf The focus is on proactive discipline through daily routine and reminders of class and school rules. Students earn Cougar Cash for following the 5 be’s. Once a month, the students “go shopping” for items from the cougar Cart. Other special events, like “Lunch with Teacher” and “Game Day Recess” are also privileges for the class. The loss of privileges and /or fixing a mistake are logical consequences of student misbehavior. The classroom has a Peace Seat where students can gain control of their feelings and emotions before returning to their work.
- Curriculum:
- Language Arts: Jr. Great Books, Benchmark, spelling, writing
- Math: Academy specific curriculum, Envisions 2nd grade with writing elements, problem solving, and critical thinking skills

- PE: Two days a week, students have PE with Coach James. I will teach an additional 40 minutes of PE each week.
- Library: once a week. The day and time are to be determined.
- Computers: Chromebooks are used throughout the week. Students will use the QR codes in your folder for CLEVER to access i-Ready, Seesaw, Lexia Core5, and other apps.
- AR reading tests/iReady/Lexia Core5: Students will be reading and taking Accelerated Reading tests during class computer time. They will also take the STAR reading test online each trimester to test for reading comprehension and levels. A Home Connect code will be sent home for you to activate so that you can receive emails on your child’s AR test scores each week. Lexia Core5 and iReady are FCUSD online reading and math websites. Students will be doing these in class through Clever. They also can be accessed at any time via Clever.
- Current Event assignments: Once a month, students will be doing a current events report. Events must be child-friendly.
- Book Reports: about every 4-6 weeks (2 per trimester) Books are read at home, but the reports are done in class.
- Homework: Expectations are 30-35 minutes Monday to Thursday. Students will fill out a homework agenda each day in class. They will bring home the agenda and their homework every day. Nightly reading will be assigned. Worksheets will be put in their homework folder. Other items may be on Seesaw. Check the agenda to be certain what homework is assigned for each day of the week.
- Grading: Graded work goes home in the Wednesday folders. I will put a percentage grade on math and spelling tests. I keep some writing for their student portfolios. District test results will be shared during conferences in November. Grades will not be put online.
- Field Trips: Once field trips have been arranged, more information will be sent home.
- Field Trip Costs: We strive to find free or low cost field trips. If we do need to collect money, the cost covers bus and entry fees. Checks can be made out to Theodore Judah.
- Birthday celebrations: Due to COVID-19, food treats are not allowed. If your child would like to bring special items to share with classmates on their birthday, pencils, erasers, book marks, and stickers are great items to give instead.
It’s going to be a great year!
