• Welcome ~ To Sutter Middle School Student Body Leadership

“If your ACTIONS inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.” -- John Quincy Adams, 6th U.S. President

Course Description Ms. Conte Rm. A-204 cconte@fcusd.org

Course Description: This class is designed to help you discover and develop your talents as a leader. Everyone has the potential to lead, and every day provides you with opportunities and possibilities to lead. In this class you will be actively engaged in activities such as group discussions, writing your thoughts, planning school dances, spirit activities, fundraisers, spirit days, school and community involvement projects and the governing process of our school. As you learn how to integrate your leadership skills into your everyday life, you will become more confident in your potential and your abilities as a leader.

Class Make Up: This class is made up of the elected student council members and selected representatives from the student body. You represent the voice of all the students here at Sutter Middle School.

Expectations: As a leader you are, by nature, a role model. I expect you to follow all seven of the Cougar Pillars and the Sutter Middle School Student Handbook. Respect the school grounds, our community and respect each other. Remember, being in leadership is a privilege. You must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and have no “N” or “U” citizenship grades. If these requirements are not met there will be disciplinary action, including the possibility of being removed from leadership.

Attendance and Participation: Because this is an activity based course, daily participation is crucial!

Be On Time: Students not in the door, in their assigned seat, and ready to work by the bell are considered tardy. Excessive (5 or more) tardies will result in a “N” in citizenship.

Themes for the year: The Individual, The Group, The Community

Evaluation: Determination for your grade is based on the following:

    • Leadership Assignments
    • Community Service - Two hours per semester, outside of school serving
    • Participation in class and events
    • Classroom activities, projects, school and community service
    • Group/committee planning for leadership events

“One person can make a difference, and everybody should try.” John F. Kennedy, 35th U.S. President

I am looking forward to a FUN, productive and successful year with you all!!!
