Welcome Parents and Students,

I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself to you.  I am a graduate from Cordova High (a long time ago), where I earned the first full ride female basketball scholarship.  I accepted Boise State Universities offer for 1 year, then chose to play for American River College from 1988-89. We won the state basketball title and I was selected as the MVP for the State Championship Tournament. I received a second full ride scholarship to UC Riverside. Later I attended Sacramento State University where I completed my Bachelors Degree and teaching credentials. I have been teaching science and physical education for over 22 years. I started my teaching journey in Rocklin teaching elementary PE and shortly afterwards moved to W.E. Mitchell Middle School where I taught physical education and science for 16 years. 5 years ago I accepted a full time science position at Sutter Middle School.

In addition to my teaching experience, I have several years of coaching and mentoring experience at the elementary, high school and collegiate level. My 20 years of coaching experience has afforded me the opportunity to work with boys and girls in basketball, volleyball, swimming, track and field, and CrossFit. I am passionate about working with young people, empowering students to be independent thinkers, as well as aiding them in polishing their critical thinking skills.

Science has changed from what we learned in school and will be very different for our students.  The specific areas of earth science in 6th grade, life science in 7th grade, and physical science in 8th grade has changed to a blend of all these areas on a very broad continuum across grade levels.  2018-19 is another year full of adaptation to improve student learning and better address the NGSS standards in my classroom. I have been working through the summer to prepare for new adventures in science.  We will be in a beautiful new classroom, with brand new furniture, and technology. We may even be able to test some of the new materials the district will adopt for Science 2019-20. Stay tuned for updates on my teacher website welcome page.
