All 7th graders will be taking the FITNESSGRAM in the spring (March/April). Students are assessed on their aerobic capacity (cardiovascular endurance), upper body strength and endurance, abdominal strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. These fitness components are measured with the following exercises:
1. Body Mass Index (height & weight measurements)
2. 1 Mile Run OR Pacer Test
5. Sit & Reach Stretch OR Shoulder Stretch
6. Trunk Lift
Passing the FITNESSGRAM requires passing 4 of the 6 exercise assessments.
Students will be doing a pre-assessment at the start of the year to get a sense of where they stand in relation to the FITNESSGRAM Standards. This will allow them to set SMART goals to work on over the course of the year inhopes of recieving passings cores in all 6 categories. Students will be doing 1-2 progress assessments throughout the year to measure their growth and update goals along the way.
