Bringing Your Own Devices

  • Bring Your Own Device or BYOD is way to get more devices into the hands of students, and in some cases staff, and enabling them to be accessible for educational uses at school.  This page is created with two parts in mind - the first is to explain the role that ETIS plays in connecting and supporting your BYODs while at school via the BYOD Policy (it is two pages) and secondly to provide parents & guardians information about the portable devices which are currently available to FCUSD children should they wish to purchase the same devices made available while in school.  How to purchase the devices is also available via those links.

Current Portable Technology Devices in Use within FCUSD

  • Chromebooks:
Acer 740 Chromebooks are our standard, and are used at all schools within the district.
See the Acer site for specifics and purchasing info - Acer 740 Chromebooks.
At several sites the Acer 720P (Touch screen) are used (Acer 720P information) - Cordova High and a couple of others, as pilots to evaluate if the extra expense is justified.  Touch screens add functionality for ease of use and for special needs/special use however the Chromebook itself is nearly identical to the base 720 and 740 models.
At Folsom High and a few other schools the Acer CP5 will be deployed for limited use - note this is a very high end device and relatively expensive.  It is larger than the 740s (the size of a standard laptop) and has a much more powerful CPU.  The primary justification for this device is the much larger display.
During the 2017/18 School year the district will be transitioning to HP (Hewlett Packard) Chromebooks.  Acer Chromebooks will be fully supported through their remaining lifespan. We are deploying HP 11 G4, HP 11 G5 (Touchscreen) and HP 14 G4 (large format) devices with 4 GB of memory and 16 GB of internal storage.
iPad Air2 by Apple.  Currently we are purchasing the iPad with WiFi and either 16 GB or 64 GB internal storage.  A protective cover is highly recommended.
See the Apple site for specifics and purchasing info - iPad Website
