It is my great honor to be the new principal of Theodore Judah Elementary school. Theodore Judah is known as a vibrant learning community with a strong and dedicated staff. I am looking forward to being a part of this team.
A little about myself: I started teaching at a private high school in Baltimore county, MD, where I also taught computer science to middle school students from the inner city of Baltimore. I took some time to raise my two boys and now have enjoyed a 20 year career with FCUSD. I started as a teacher of the "Mommy-and-Me" class for toddlers when my youngest son was a toddler himself. Then I taught the parent co-op preschool, teaching the class the first year Empire Oaks opened. I went on to teach third grade there. After five years, I became the district Lead Teacher for K-8 math and science. After several years I also took on the GATE program and worked closely with principals Canen Peterson and Angi Carlomagno to open the Academies at Theodore Judah and Mather Heights. Finally, I became principal of Navigator Elementary School in Rancho Cordova and enjoyed six years as the leader there.
Prior to being in education, I had a career in nonprofit management spending five years in Washington, D.C. and several years in San Jose. I graduated summa cum laude from UC Berkeley a few million years ago and earned my masters in education from the University of La Verne.
I have been married to Honesto Vargas for 27 years. We have two terrific boys, Cal and Perry. Cal graduated from the school of engineering at George Mason Univeristy and is a business analyst living in Washington, DC. Perry just graduated from Barrett Honors College at ASU with degrees in astrophysics and mathematics. He is on a internship at SpaceX with hopes of landing a permanent job there.
In my free time I enjoy being active, walking, running, and hiking. December, 2018, I ran the California Internation Marathon! I do not consider myself a "runner" but I had that on my bucket list and figured I better get to it! I also reading and speinding time with my friends. I look forward to the pleasure of meeting you!
