ADDITIONAL MATERIALS NEEDED: Students are expected to bring the following materials to class daily- Composition Book for journal entries, Pens (blue or black), Pencils, Correcting Pen (not blue or black), Paper (loose leaf in a folder or in a notebook with perforated sheets), Class Folder (to keep loose materials), Index Cards.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for students seeking to learn a world language. Students will develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. Students will also explore the cultural aspects of various Spanish-Speaking countries. These cultural components may include literature, art, history, food, traditions, music, architecture, holidays, etc.
HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned regularly and will include studying vocabulary, independent practice, writing assignments, reading, workbook assignments, and projects. Some assignments will require the use of a computer and internet access. This course places an additional workload on students as students will be expected to spend at least 20 minutes every day on homework and personal study.
EXAMS/QUIZZES: Quizzes will be administered regularly to check for student comprehension and reinforce new information. Students will complete an exam at the end of each chapter of the textbook and there will be a cumulative Final Exam at the end of the school year upon completion of the curriculum.
GRADES: Grades will be calculated by a total point system incorporating exams, quizzes, projects, in-class assignments, homework, journals, and class participation. Letter grades will be assigned based on a percentage of the points earned and will include a +/- scale as well. Please note that students will need a grade of C or higher in BOTH the course AND on the Final Exam in order to progress to the next level of world language. Grades will be posted on PowerSchool.
BEHAVIOR: All School Rules and Classroom Rules/Procedures will be adhered to at all times. Students are expected to follow those rules and are expected to: Be on time, Be prepared, Do their assignments, and Respect the space of those around them.
MISSED WORK: Students are responsible for any missed work due to absences. Students are expected to obtain all missed assignments upon returning to school by retrieving them form the Absent Folders. If a test or quiz is missed, arrangements must be with the teacher to make up the exam during Advisory, Lunch, or at another time agreed upon by the teacher and student.
