Radiant Readers!

Junior Great Books

With the powerful combination of outstanding literature and shared-inquiry discussions, Great Books K–12 programs help students become independent readers and thinkers ready for the diverse demands of the 21st century.

This is our district’s adopted textbook, and while we will not be reading every story in the book, we will be using this resource to supplement.

Reader’s Theater

From a variety of sources including, Simply Shakespeare and Bad Wolf Press.

Independent Reading

We will be incorporating components of SEM-R, School-Wide Enrichment Model, developed by Sally Reis as well as strategies from, The Book Whisperer, by Donalyn Miller. The development of students' capability to engage in a structured, silent-reading time of self-selected high interest books is emphasized. Students are supported with individualized, differentiated reading conferences, and required to explore a variety of genres. We spend the first few weeks of school doing a novel together and walking the students through the SEM-R process and our expectations. Once independent SEM-R begins, students will have a conference with a teacher every two weeks.
