I have been working with our Food Service department on improving our lunch service at TJ. The lines have been very long and slow so the children rush to get out to recess. We allow them to stay in and eat but they often choose to go out to play (they are children after all)! Here's some of the things we are doing in order to make things better:
Rearrange the salad bar line to speed up service (done)
Make structural changes to the counter area to help speed things along (done)
Stagger classes to help keep the line moving (partially done)
We're working on the schedule to lengthen lunch time and decrease the morning/afternoon recess time so kids have more time to eat (in progress)
We are hiring one more yard duty to help manage the kids (this week)
What you can do:
Please encourage your children to focus on eatting and to save playing for recess time. I want them to enjoy some social time, but I want them to get a healthy lunch too.
Keep money on their lunch account and/or apply for free and reduced price meals. It slows things down when students are out of funds.
Keep lunch simple: students only have about 20 minutes to eat.
It's almost here! The anticipation for the first day of school is as exciting for me and it is for most of our students! I am wondering what it will all be like when we fill the campus with the beautiful children for whom it was built!
There is still a lot of construction and teachers are working furiously to get their rooms done for the students. Some teachers have not been able to get into their rooms until today! I know that even if bulletin boards are not done, or every supply is not perfectly placed, that the most important things, the teacher and the students will be ready to go.
I am looking forward to working with staff, students, parents and community partners in building a campus community of proud, curious, eager Cougars.
If you have been by the school you will have seen mounds of dirt and heavy machinery. Construction has begun! The plan is to have the new wing and media center open for the first day of school. I am confident that the classrooms will be ready and we will be flexible if we have to wait for the media center. The crew is working six days a week to make it happen.
Why did they take the tress out between the buildings? The roots were causing damage to the foundation of the permanent buildings and damaging the pipes. I'm sorry to see them go, but fully understand the need.
I will post picutes of the work on our webpage throughout the summer.
