    A Message from Principal Parenzin

    Hello Empire Oaks Families!

I hope everyone has had a great summer despite the circumstances. I’ve missed you all and have been thinking about you all summer. As you’ve probably heard by now, we have been directed to start school with full Distance Learning due to the current state of COVID-19. I am reaching out to reassure you that although we are not able to welcome students physically back to school this week, we are nonetheless eager to welcome students to our Distance Learning program!

Class Assignments are posted on our school website by grade level. Please do not call the office to try to get your class assignment changed. Our grade level teams and administration spent a lot of time and effort purposefully placing each student. Any changes at this point would cause a disruption to the grade level. Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you shortly with details about the first day of school and the daily schedule thereafter!

Chromebook Distribution All students will receive a district-supported chromebook this year. If you have a Chromebook from the spring and it is working, please keep it. If there’s a problem, bring it in and we will replace it. This distribution schedule is by your child’s last name as entered in PowerSchool. Chrombook distribution will take place in front of the multi. Please pull up in your vehicle, loop around, and remain in your vehicle. We will get your child’s name, assign a chromebook to them, and bring it to you. You are also welcome to bike or walk to the multi. If you do so, please be sure to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines. Please arrive within your assigned time so that we can be sure to allow for a quick and safe distribution of chromebooks. If you cannot make your assigned time, please email or call us ASAP to set up an alternative appointment. CLICK HERE for the SCHEDULE

First Day of School and Materials Distribution We would like to invite EO families to a Welcome Back to School and Materials Distribution Parade on Wednesday, August 12th. CLICK HERE for details.

Please have your child’s first and last name and teacher’s name on a piece of paper/poster in the window of your vehicle so we can quickly identify who is coming through and grab their materials for them!

We are doing a First Day of School Photo Challenge! In your child's materials, you'll find a "First Day" coloring page, also found HERE. Have your child color it, take a picture with it and send it to our Parent Coordinator, Victoria Deal at vdeal@fcusd.org.

Also, in your child's materials, you'll find "Online Classroom Etiquette." Please review these with your child. Their teachers will also go over these with their students when reviewing expectations next week.

Back to School Night BTSN will be virtual this year! Each grade level team will be posting a brief video or presentation on our website for you to view by 5pm on Tuesday, August 11. If you have any questions after viewing the presentations, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Lunch Lunch will be served daily at EO from 11am-1pm. As of the first day of school the district will be back on the National School Lunch/School Breakfast Programs and we will be following all the USDA regulations. This is separate from the free COVID and summer feeding programs that were previously offered through the district. Meals will be served non-congregate – we will not be using the dining rooms – and will be served only to children who are enrolled in the district. Meals will be served curbside in front of the multi. Children can walk up and get a meal or they can be in a vehicle. All children will need to give their name or PIN number to receive a meal. For more information on Food Services, please visit their website - HERE. Our Welcome Back to School Parade on Wednesday, 8/12 should end around 11:25am. If you’re going to buy lunch that day, please try to come between 11:30am-1:00pm to avoid getting caught in a traffic jam!

Office Availability: The office is currently open by appointment, and walk-ups are welcome between the hours of 7:30am-4:00pm. Anything that can be handled via phone or email is strongly encouraged. Please know that when you visit the office we are following safety protocols:

      • Visitors and school personnel must wear face masks
      • We have a table outside the office with a drop box, hand sanitizer, box of masks
      • Limit the number of visitors in/around the office to maintain 6 feet social distancing (floor is marked with spacing indicators)
      • Before coming to the office, please self-screen with the guidelines attached - HERE

Student Engagement: We WILL have some fun, interactive things planned for the year - virtual challenges, spirit days, etc. I will be in touch and our office will update our school website regularly beginning in August. We will send out a weekly parent newsletter called the “Acorn Blast” to inform you of everything going on each week. We will continue doing Sunday Stories read alouds, Monday Morning Messages, Weekly Challenges, and Virtual Lunch Bunches.

Set a Positive Tone! I have seen this quote floating around on social media, and I couldn’t agree more. For what it’s worth - “As schools start to unveil their COVID-19 plans for fall - as parents, let’s set the tone for the year for our kids. When they announce the plans, read them in private and discuss with your spouse alone. Then come back and tell your kids as positively as possible how the fall will go. Tell them how proud you are of them wanting to keep others safe and how much their teachers are looking forward to going on this adventure with them. Tell them to just try their best. They are watching our reaction and will respond accordingly. In my opinion, it is fine to feel completely different (angry, sad, worried), just fake it so your child has a smoother start. They don’t need to add your worries to their own. Let’s be kind to each other and our school. We’re all doing our best. We’ve got this!” This, along with other similar messages have been circulating. The bottom line is that we, as the adults, set the tone. If we are excited and positive, they will be too!

Welcome Kinders and New Families: Last but not least, I want to extend a warm welcome to our kindergarten families and new families. I know this is a challenging way to start school and we will be communicating with you directly in the coming week to help you navigate this new frontier. Please watch for an email from your child’s teacher!

Finally, suggested class materials lists and Back to School Night presentations will be posted on our website by Tuesday, 8/11 at 5pm. Have a wonderful weekend and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone next week!

I can’t wait to “see” everyone again. Virtual hugs and high fives to everyone in our EO Family!
