This year will be my 23rd year teaching, which makes half of my overall life that I have been a public school teacher. I taught 4th and 5th grades for 6 years, and I have taught middle school math for 16 years. I have taught in the Bay Area, Pacific Grove, and in Flagstaff, Arizona before moving to the Sacramento area 11 years ago - wow, time flies! I attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I started off as a mechanical engineer before switching my major to Liberal Studies with a Math Emphasis, with the intent of being an elementary school teacher forever. A few years into teaching, I moved and was offered the opportunity to teach algebra instead, and I found my true calling.
I am married and have 2 lovely girls: Aliya, who is 13 and in the eighth grade, and Gillian, who is 10 and is in the fifth grade. Aliya loves to play softball, root for the SF Giants, and do any sort of art project. Gillian loves to watch silly YouTube videos and play soccer, as well as drawing and coloring. They both love skiing and water sports.
I love to do outdoor activities: hiking, biking, skiing, swimming, and playing outside with my kids. This past summer we took a big road trip across Nevada and Utah before ending up in Fort Collins, Colorado. We also went to our cabin at Tahoe and spent lots of time together. I also love to read, mostly fiction, but I have been trying hard to branch out into more non-fiction too. I also love to cook and bake.
