Get to Know Mrs. Passovoy
This year will be my 27th year as a public school teacher. I taught 4th and 5th grades for 6 years, and I have taught middle school math for 20 (!!) years. I taught in the Bay Area, Pacific Grove, and Flagstaff, Arizona before moving to the Sacramento area 15 years ago - wow, time flies! I attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I started off as a mechanical engineer before switching my major to Liberal Studies with a Math Emphasis, with the intent of being an elementary school teacher forever. A few years into teaching, I moved and was offered the opportunity to teach algebra instead, and I found my true calling.
I am married and have 2 lovely girls: Aliya, who is 17 and a high school senior, and Gillian, who is 14 and is a freshman. Aliya loves to play softball and soccer, root for the SF Giants, read fiction, play the guitar, and do any sort of art project. Gillian loves to play soccer, run cross-country, socialize with her friends, and she is amazing at organizing everyone's stuff. They both love skiing and water sports.
I love to do outdoor activities, especially hiking and skiing. This past summer we did some camping and went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Bryce Canyon in Utah. I also love to read, mostly fiction, but I have been reading more non-fiction too. I also like to cook and bake, although the girls have mostly taken over the baking in the house. I am a big SF Giants fan, even when their prospects of winning the division or the World Series don't look very good.
