McKinney-Vento Program: Helping Homeless Students Succeed
-
The McKinney-Vento program is here to provide essential support for students who lack a stable place to live. If you're facing uncertain housing situations, we're here to help you continue your education and thrive in school.
Who is Eligible?
Students who don't have a consistent, secure place to stay are considered to be living in transition. This includes children and young people, who are:
- Sharing living space with another family
- Staying in a shelter, motel, or hotel
- Living in transitional housing or a trailer park
- Camping or staying in makeshift arrangements
- In a place not meant for living, like a car or abandoned building
Your Rights as a Student
We want to make sure that your education is not disrupted by your housing situation. Here are your rights under the McKinney-Vento program:
-
Immediate Enrollment: You have the right to enroll in school right away, even if you don't have all the required documents.
-
School of Origin: You can continue attending the school you were going to, even if you change your living situation.
-
Transportation: We provide transportation to make sure you can get to school, even if you're in transition.
-
Homeless Liaison: Our dedicated liaison is here to support you, answer questions, and help you access the resources you need.
-
No Barriers: We'll remove any obstacles that might get in the way of your education, including enrollment, participation in activities, and more.
-
Enrollment Documents: You don't need to worry about having all the typical documents, like proof of residence, immunization records, or school records.
-
Continued Support: If you find permanent housing during the school year, you'll still be eligible for support until the end of that year.
