The After-School Education and Safety Program (ASES) is funded by a grant from the State of California.  We serve the following sites:
    • Cordova Gardens Elementary
    • Cordova Meadows Elementary
    • Cordova Villa Elementary
    • Peter J. Shields Elementary
    • Rancho Cordova Elementary
    • Williamson Elementary
    • White Rock Elementary
    • Mills Middle School
    • Mitchell Middle School
    PROGRAM ELEMENTS
The ASES program consists of three components: 1) academic, 2) recreational, and 3) academic enrichment.  The education component consists of a curriculum that complements the school's academic program. The recreational component will consist of the SPARK curriculum and other resources.  The enrichment component will include STEM activities.

    ADMISSION
Admission to the Folsom Cordova Unified School District's ASES Program is based upon parental commitment to the program requirements. A Parent Orientation will be given at the time of enrollment.  An enrollment to the wait list will be created as the need arises.  Students will be invited to join the ASES program as spaces become available.

    FULL TIME ENROLLMENT
Students should attend ASES on a daily basis. (However, if they are absent from school, students may not attend that day.) Excessive absences from ASES may result in students being dropped from the after-school program. The grant's intent is for elementary students to attend ASES for 3 hours per day; Middle School students for 2 hours a day.

    LATE-EARLY PICK UPS

ASES is funded by a state grant that is meant to serve students who most need this after-school program. Therefore, excessive requests for early release for other activities may lead to the student being dropped from the ASES Program. Students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m.  Repeated late pick-ups will result in your student losing their spot in ASES.

    PARALLEL PROGRAMS

Within certain limits and with prior approval from the ASES Director, students may be excused from ASES to engage in other activities such as team sports, church, Scouts, etc.  Parents must give a completed Parallel Program Request Form to the ASES Associate at least five days before the start of the Parallel Program for approval. These requests are typically approved if the student is leaving ASES early, no more than two days a week, and if the student is leaving immediately after checking into ASES or during supper time.  For the least amount of disruptions, elementary students with pre-approved Parallel Program forms, medical appointments or special occasions should be picked up from ASES between Check-in and 3:00 p.m. or at supper time between 3:45 p.m. -4:00 p.m.  Middle school students may be picked up from ASES for Parallel Programs/medical appointments at check-in and 3:15 p.m. or at supper time between 3:45 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    STUDENT PICK UP AND DISMISSAL

Our staff signs students into ASES directly after school. Elementary students are picked up between 5:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.; Middle School students between 5:00 pm and 6:00pm. Students must be signed out by an adult at least 16 years old, who is listed on the enrollment form. (An adult who is unfamiliar to ASES staff will be asked to show identification.)

If your child is not picked up by 6:00 p.m., and we have been unable to contact anyone on the enrollment form, we may contact law enforcement.

For safety reasons, students should always check into the ASES Program directly after school.

    WALKERS

These are students who are able to walk home alone safely.  They will be released at 5:30 p.m. and must walk straight home.  During daylight savings time, walkers are released at 4:30 p.m.  The first day following spring break, walkers are again released at 5:30 p.m. Bike riders must wear a helmet.

    ILLNESSES

If your child appears sick, or complains of sickness while participating in the program, the staff will notify the parent/guardian immediately.  Staff will ask you to pick up your child from the program to prevent the risk of infection. The program is not equipped to care for sick children.

    MEDICAL & EMERGENCY INFORMATION
The emergency contact information you have completed is extremely important.  Please be sure to notify the staff of any changes in your child's medical needs, as well as any changes that might occur to your home and work numbers, and the emergency contact numbers you have supplied. Please make sure your emergency contacts are local, so they may assist with pick-up if needed.

    INJURIES

If your child is injured, the program staff will take whatever steps may be necessary to ensure that your child receives emergency medical care.  This can include, but is not limited to, administering emergency first aid or CPR, attempting to contact you or your emergency contacts, calling an ambulance or paramedic, calling your family doctor, and/or accompanying the child to an emergency hospital.
