SUTTER MIDDLE SCHOOL
SIXTH GRADE - TEAM 1
Dear Family,
Welcome to the 2005 - 2006 school
year. Our goal is to work together with you and your child to create a
memorable and successful year. The 6th grade team teachers are committed to
making this a positive learning experience for each student. You are also
an integral part of the team and we are looking forward to working along
with you to ensure your child's success. Please feel free to contact us at
school if you or your child have any concerns, questions, or wish to relay
any information that is pertinent to your child's educational success. We
look forward to meeting you at Back to School Night.
Materials
An important item that students will always be
required to have is the reminder binder. Organization and time management
are two very important skills for the middle school student to learn, and
the 6th grade team will be utilizing the reminder binder daily to ensure
that your child keeps track of all dates, grades, and assignments. Also,
please make sure that your child has the supplies from the backpack supply
list. These are the materials that each student is expected to have with
them every day. Please save
this list and replenish
supplies as needed.
Homework
Policy
Homework will stem directly from class work as
reinforcement in each subject. It will generally be assigned on a daily
basis, Monday through Thursday. There will be, from time to time,
mini-projects, book reports, research and long-term projects that will
require more time to complete. Completed assignments are due at the
beginning of the period the following day, unless otherwise specified.
Half credit will be given if it is not completed on time. All long-term
projects are due at the beginning of the period on the due date.
Your role
is to check your child's reminder binder and/or the homework hotline to make
sure all work is complete and personal best effort is given.
Your child's role is to be
responsible for completing and returning all work on time with a high
quality of workmanship: consideration and usage of spelling, mechanics, and
word usage; and consistent use of complete sentences. All papers should
have a neat overall appearance with proper headings, including name and
number, current date, subject, period, and page number(s) on all papers.
Grading
Policy
The student earns the letter grade. It is
based upon the number scores from homework, class work, projects, quizzes,
and tests. The scores are totaled and a percentage score is assigned.
Letter grades are as follows:
100 - 90 % = A
89 - 80 % = B
79
- 70 % = C
69 - 60 % = D
59 % - Below = F
Citizenship
Every
student has
the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach. So that these
rights are not violated, all students will follow school and class rules and
exhibit behavior in the classroom that provides a safe and successful
learning environment. If a student chooses to violate these rights, the
school discipline policy will be put into action. Citizenship grades will
be assigned for the following behaviors:
Outstanding (O)
= The student exhibits social qualities that
enhance the learning
environment. This will include, but not be limited to: helping others on a
regular basis, class participation, prepared with tools and materials,
always on time, attentive, respectful of others and their property.
Satisfactory (S)
= The student exhibits social qualities that are conducive to a safe and
successful learning environment. This will include, but is not limited to:
class participation, prepared with tools and materials, always on time,
respectful of others and property, working well in groups.
Needs Improvement (N)
= The student exhibits behavior that is sometimes not conducive to a safe
and successful learning environment. This will include, but is not limited
to: inappropriate behavior, frequently tardy, wasting time off task
behavior, or warning step on School Due Process Form.
Unsatisfactory
= The student exhibits behavior that is not conducive to a safe and
successful learning environment. S/He often creates a disruption in the
classroom, which prevents the teacher from teaching and other students from
learning. S/He has many tardies and steps have begun on the School Due
Process Form.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR
