Folsom Students And Leaders Attend 19th Annual Leadership Conference
April 4, 2014
FOLSOM, Calif. Selected Folsom High juniors and community leaders in Folsom attended the 19th Annual Leadership Conference to discuss ethics in the business world and leadership characteristics.
Hosted by Folsom High School and Folsom’s Rotary Club, the conference took place at Lakeside Church on April 2. The high school students and the community leaders were separated into small groups to discuss business etiquette, the traits of a leader, and ethical issues in the business world and everyday life.
Students are taught the Rotary International’s “Four-Way Test” to help them make wise decisions as a leader. “1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?” At the end of the conference, attendees rejoined and presented what they learned to the whole group.
The Leadership Conference is held every year to support the young leaders at Folsom High School and to prepare them for their futures in the local, national, and global community.
There were many volunteers that worked to make this conference a success. Melinda Malaspino, a teacher at Folsom High School, was the lead coordinator, and she thanked Mrs. Allaman, Folsom High Principal; Mrs. Graston, administrative assistant; and Ms. Jean Cavanaugh, teacher and coordinator for the first 18 years of the conference. The Rotary Club of Folsom, the Rotary Annes of Folsom, and all the Folsom business leaders also invested their time to inspire the students.
‘”This was truly a team effort!” Malaspino said. “I am so very proud of our Bulldog students and how they presented themselves at the conference. I hope that the 47 juniors who attended will strengthen their understanding of what it means to be a leader and how to make ethical decisions when in the position of being a leader, whether in school, in the workplace, or in daily life.”
