Rancho Cordova Elementary surprised

Last week all students at Rancho Cordova Elementary School were treated to a big surprise thanks to the Kids in Need Foundation, Round Table Pizza and CBS Sacramento and Good Day Sacramento: Free backpacks and school supplies!

Students from grades TK to fifth piled into the school’s multipurpose room for an assembly, but had no idea what it was about.

School Principal Larry Mahoney took the stage to introduce the Executive Director of Kids In Need Foundation, Dave Smith and Round Table Pizza’s Kelly Foss who unveiled the surprise to students.

Foss asked students to help with a spirited countdown for the big surprise. When the stage curtain opened, 450 backpacks filled with school supplies were unveiled.

Fourth and fifth graders lined up to select a backpack of their choice from the stage and the rest were later delivered to classrooms for students in the remaining grades, Mahoney said.

Kids In Need Foundation’s mission is to ensure that children have the school supplies they need to learn.

With the help of sponsor Round Table Pizza, it made it possible for students who may not have the capability to buy new school supplies to have tools Needed to succeed in school.

Good Day Sacramento and CBS Sacramento Anchor/Reporter Cody Stark did live shots on their morning show covering the school supplies donation.
