Love And Logic Class Teaching Kids Self-Sufficiency
February 21, 2013
Self-disciplined children consistently get better grades, score higher on college aptitude exams, and are more successful in later life.
Oak Chan Elementary’s Love and Logic Parenting Class teaches parents how to raise self-disciplined children while enjoying the parenting experience. This program shows how to put joy in teaching and parenting, how to discipline children fairly, strategies on how to avoid power-struggles in both work and home environments, and tips on how to guide kids to solve their own problems.
Angela Sing, Coordinator of the Love and Logic Program, said, “Parents learn how to give children ownership over their choices and problems by making them accountable for their actions.”
Each week parents are encouraged to try something at home they had learned from the class, and come back the next week to discuss their experiences.
Space for the program filled up quickly and was popular with the parents. A total of 34 parents attended the classes with 28 children in the onsite childcare room.
One parent who participated in the program said, “"I felt like I learned so much and it's made parenting easier for me. I would love to take another class in the future."
Organizers of the program are looking to allow more discussion for the parents in future classes.
Facilitator of the Love and Logic program, Claudia Lewis, said, “I love teaching the class and look forward to doing it again and again. It works for children of all ages.”
The Love and Logic Parenting Class at Oak Chan Elementary teaches FCUSD students to be engaged and active self-learners.
