Summer School students reach important milestone
Students from Cordova, Folsom, and Vista del Lago high schools reflected on their journey to their graduation date. “I’m going to miss the friendships and the memories,” said Cordova High’s Alexis Gonzales. “Sophomore year was the best; I grew more as a person and met new people and new friends.”

Teacher Gilbert Brewer, who is on faculty at Vista del Lago during the school year, was happy for his students as they celebrated their achievement.
“It’s exciting. They got over a bump in the road and persevered,” he said. “I hope they continue to progress in a positive direction. I hope they take pride in what they have accomplished and use that as motivation to continue to achieve their life goals.”
Teacher Keith Shields, of Mills Middle, echoed those sentiments. “I was very proud to see them walk across that stage,” he said. “As educators that’s the goal. From kindergarten all the way up through high school that is the end result we want them to achieve.”
Dylan O’Sullivan from Cordova High School was just as excited for the big day. “When I walked across the stage to receive my diploma I felt excited, nervous, proud.” O’Sullivan will attend Folsom Lake College next year and then transfer to Sacramento State. He wants to study fire fighting or fire technology.
This is just the first step for many of the graduating students. Many are planning on continuing their education or joining the workforce. With graduation comes the opportunity to explore passions and investigate possible career paths, as Bailee Fitz will be doing. “I will be going to Canada to study special effects and makeup,” she said.
Summer school Principal Jonathan Johnson had a message to share with his graduating students:
“Your education doesn’t stop here; learning is a lifelong process,” he said. “Develop the skills you use here to continue to learn throughout your life.”
