Folsom Cordova Students Win Big At 2014 Synopsys Sacramento Stem Fair
April 3, 2014
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. Folsom Cordova swept the recent 2014 Synopsys Sacramento Regional Science & Engineering Fair, with over 30 students awarded in various categories.
Vista del Lago High School science teacher (and district judge), Kimberly Moore, says she credits student success at regional partially to the district’s earlier fair.
“This years [sic] district STEM fair had some very big changes. The fair was expanded from the "typical" science fair to include not only science but engineering, technology, math, science related art and science-fiction writing,” Moore said. “It was really exciting to watch our students expand their view of the normal science fair.”
One of the student winners, Vista del Lago student Akshay Rathish, says that his project was about a cost-effective robotic platform for dyssemic and autistic children.
“As a student I am very passionate about science and technology, the STEM fair gives me the opportunity to apply the knowledge I learned in the classroom to real life applications,” Rathish said. “It gives me hands on experience in engineering and allows me to expand my knowledge in these fields.”
This is not the first STEM headline surrounding Folsom Cordova in recent months. The district has also received notoriety for its innovative STEM elementary school, Riverview, opening in the fall of 2014.
