Folsom High student researcher headed to international contest
Folsom Cordova students recently displayed their research prowess at the 2015 Synopsys Sacramento Regional STEM Fair held at Folsom High School. Nathaniel Varghese, a senior at Folsom High, won the third place Grand Prize Award for his Chemistry & Health Science project “Advancing Western Blotting: Improving the Sensitivity of Protein Detection with Smaller Well Engineering.”
Varghese has won a free trip to compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Pittsburgh this May.
Varghese also won first place in his individual category, along with Vista del Lago students Abberamee Visvanathan in Behavioral & Social Sciences and Sanika Mane in Energy & Transportation.
In the middle school section, Samyuk Surti of Folsom Middle school placed first in the Math & Computer Sciences category for her project “Lane Merge Algorithm for Autonomous Cars.”Manasi Deshpande of Sutter Middle won first place in the Physical Sciences section for her project, “Cleaning Oil Spills Using Nanotechnology.”
