Partners of the Year recognized for supporting student success
The Folsom Cordova Unified School District honored four Community Partners of the Year for their ongoing commitment to student achievement and outstanding contributions to schools, student learning and family engagement.
The award recipients were announced during the District’s sixth-annual Community Partners Luncheon on Tuesday, April 5, which is organized each year to recognize and celebrate the local businesses, nonprofits and faith-based organizations for being valued collaborators in student achievement. Through myriad contributions in and out of the classroom - volunteer mentors, enrichment programs, unique learning opportunities, donations of resources and more - Folsom Cordova’s community partners help students develop the skills necessary to succeed in the world around them.

2016 Corporate Partner of the Year
Aerojet Rocketdyne: The Rancho Cordova-based rocket-engine maker was recognized for its numerous and ongoing contributions to education in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). In January, two rocket scientists led a virtual tour of the company’s highly secured facility with 200 students at Riverview STEM Academy in Rancho Cordova. The company also continued its ongoing sponsorship of the District’s annual STEM Expo, where student-led innovation is showcased each year.
2016 Nonprofit Partner of the Year
SAFE Credit Union: The Folsom-based credit union was honored for its contributions toward family engagement and student financial literacy. In October, SAFE enthusiastically co-sponsored, along with FCUSD and Lakeside Church, a “Parenting Today’s Teens” seminar that provided evidence-based resources for families to support their child’s success in school and in life. SAFE also coordinates a yearly “reality fair” at Kinney High School, an interactive and engaging activity that teaches students about saving money, planning for the future, and making financial decisions in the real world.
2016 Faith-based Partners of the Year
FCUSD recognized two faith-based partners of the year:
Blessings in a Backpack: The Rancho Cordova-based charity supplies food to children in schools with high populations of low-income families including Rancho Cordova, Cordova Villa, and Williamson elementary schools. Many children rely on these schools for their daily meals, but on the weekend, some families struggle to obtain the food they need. Blessings in a Backpack donates food every Friday to get kids through the weekend so they come back to school healthy and ready to learn on Monday.
River City Christian Church: In December, this Rancho Cordova church provided dozens of parents at Rancho Cordova Elementary the opportunity to provide holiday gifts for their children and families. Volunteers invited and drove families to River City’s campus for its annual Christmas Mall, where families could shop for free gifts and received meals, haircuts, and entertainment.
