The Sacramento Business Service Center, a subsidiary of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, maintains as one of its core values, the need to provide financial support through scholarships for qualified students in the Sacramento region. Since its inception we have awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to first and second year college students through the Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. Scholarship program.
The purpose of the Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to eligible graduating high school seniors who face limited access to educational and career opportunities. Students are selected and awards are distributed based on demonstrated academic achievement, financial need and community involvement. Students must be majoring in studies leading to a degree in business, computer science, engineering, health services or a vocational program leading to a professional career. Students must be of Hispanic origin. The Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. Scholarships are available on a competitive basis. Applicants must live in the Sacramento Six-County Regional area: Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba counties and their cities. Applicants must apply for enrollment in a minimum of twelve units per semester.
