Answers
• How do I access mail from home, another
campus, etc.?
You can access your
GroupWise information from any PC connected to the Internet. Point your
browser to
http://gwweb.fcusd.org and enter your username and password.
• How do I change my password?
There are two ways
to change your password.
Method #1
The first is by
right-clicking on the red "N" in the system tray (lower-right corner of your
screen, by the clock). Select User Administration for FCUSD_Tree → Novell Password Administration.
Click the Change Password button and follow the prompts.
If you're using Windows2000 or WindowsXP, press
Control-Alt-Delete and click the Change Password button. Again,
follow the prompts, typing your current password, followed by your new password.
Method #2
Open GroupWise WebAccess,
http://gwweb.fcusd.org,
and login with your current username and password. Click the Options
button (top-middle of the window) → Password tab. Type your current
password, followed by your new password.
Either method changes your eDirectory password,
used for both NetWare and GroupWise.
• How do I switch from Outlook to
GroupWise?
First and foremost,
you will not be required to change from Outlook to GroupWise. GroupWise
offers users increased functionality and the ability to coordinate calendars,
schedule resources, and access to all your eMail, contacts, and calendar from
anywhere. While Outlook is strictly an application for managing eMail, you
calendar, and contacts, GroupWise is an integrated "groupware" solution.
If you decide you want to change, there will be a few options:
Option #1
Abandon your Outlook
data and begin using GroupWise WebAccess
This option is
good for folks that don't have a large number of work-related Outlook contacts
or calendar items. Examples might include many teachers, nurses,
psychologists, etc. You can still access your old eMail through Outlook
but disable its Send/Receive functionality (documentation to follow).
Option #2
Abandon your Outlook
data and begin using the GroupWise full client
This option is
good for folks that don't have a large number of work-related Outlook contacts
or calendar items but do require the additional functionality of the GroupWise
Client as well as synchronization with a PDA (PocketPC or Palm). Examples might include
administrative assistants, some principals, or other office staff.
This option requires that we install the software on your PC and that you attend
a training session (TBA). Again, you can still access your old eMail and
information through Outlook but we will disable its Send/Receive functionality.
Option #3
Migrate your Outlook
data and begin using the GroupWise full client
This option is
good for folks that have a large number of work-related Outlook contacts or
calendar items. Examples might include principals, some teachers, or other
staff. This option requires that we install the software on your PC
and that you attend a training session (TBA). Again, you can still access
your old eMail and information through Outlook but we will disable its
Send/Receive functionality. We will only migrate your data if
the following conditions are met: you have greater than 50
work-related/non-district* contacts or greater than 50 work-related future
calendar items. We will also import eMail from the past 8 weeks.
Other eMail will be still accessible via Outlook
*The
"non-district" distinction is made because the GroupWise system address contains
the eMail addresses for all district users. It is not necessary to
duplicate this information in your personal address book.
• I've switched to GroupWise but why do I
still need Outlook?
Outlook is still
necessary if you wish to access old eMail, contacts, or appointments. You
won't be able to send or receive eMail, but you can print out information as
required.
• Why do I only have one password?
Because GroupWise is
based on Novell's eDirectory architecture, both your NetWare and GroupWise
accounts use the same credential database. Not only will you have one less
password to recall, but all new NetWare users will have their eMail accounts
created automatically.
• What's with all these other buttons in the
new web interface?
If you're an intelligent user (and we know you
are!), you'll notice a bunch of new buttons on the web interface. In
addition to the typical mail functions (mailbox, compose, address book), you'll
see calendar, documents, checklist, cabinet, etc. These items are part of
the "groupware experience" and will be explained as we progress with the next
steps of the migration. If you're really interested, the
online help
is an excellent source for learning about these features.
• WebAccess says I can't login or my
account "isn't current." What does that mean?
Like your NetWare account at school or workplace,
all accounts are locked out between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. This is necessary
for backup purposes, SASIxp data transfers between school sites and the district
office, and other system maintenance. eMail continues to be delivered
during these hours, you just can't login to retrieve it.
Alternatively, if you are trying to use
WebAccess between 5 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.
and you receive a message that your account "isn't current," it's likely your
account is temporarily locked due to failed password attempts. One of the
many security measures we implement is to detect login attempts and disable your
account for a period of time. In most cases, seven attempts within a 30
minute window will disable your account for 15-30 minutes. After that
time, it will automatically be re-enabled.
• I'm having
problems accessing my eMail at home through America Online.
Most versions of America Online uses their own
"flavor" of Microsoft's Internet Explorer which have been known to cause
problems with certain web pages. If you are able to access
WebAccess from your school or site
but not at home and you're using AOL, we recommend that you login to AOL but
access WebAccess through Microsoft's
Internet Explorer (not AOL's). To do this, minimize AOL after you login
and launch IE from the "Start" menu or desktop. That should solve the
problem.
• Do I have
to access my mail through WebAccess?
No. You may continue using Outlook as your
eMail client. WebAccess is
useful for those employees who are housed at multiple sites or wish to
send/receive district eMail from home.
• I know I'm
typing the correct password but Outlook keeps asking!
Some versions of Outlook may not recognize that
you're replacing a previously saved password. Refer to
this document on how to force the change.
