    Art Program

    This program is designed for any child with artistic interests as well as those who need further fine motor skill development.  The curriculum covers a wide variety of child friendly subject matter to introduce new concepts, ideas, and techniques.  There are new lessons each week with an art history lesson every month along with some fun cartoon drawing classes!  Only dry materials will be used (pencils, markers, color pencils, etc.)

    Session 2.1 | Intergalactic Innovators

    We’re on a mission to deep outer space to explore the unknown!  You’ll have the course of this program to apply the principles of design thinking to launch a spacecraft, safely land a space rover on distant worlds, and build tools to conduct experiments; all on a quest to become the first humans to explore and study deep space!  Along the way you will also be exploring what exists in the vast space of our universe, including satellites, comets, asteroids, solar systems, and galaxies.  Suit up, the world’s future depends on you!

    Session 2.2 | Fabrication Lab

    Join us on a journey through the exciting world of engineering!  This program will focus on product design with an emphasis on solving a problem in the local community.  Students will decide on a problem in their community, brainstorm, design, build, test, and modify their products.  Students will also create an advertisement and sales pitch for their products and present them to the group.

    Session 3.1: Ocean Nightlife

    This program will focus on the creatures that live deep down in the ocean.  Students will explore bio-luminescence as they uncover the creatures that never see the sun.  Students will create projects that glow, shine, and flash as they work through this program.

    Session 3.2: Animation Studio

    Lights, camera, action!  Students will examine the process of stop-motion animation as they create storyboards, film a movie, and edit their movie to create a final project!  Students will create a variety of animation movies using different styles of animation which might include paper, flip book, and object animation.

    Play Well TEKnologies

    Use LEGO to design and build houses, bridges, motorized cars, trains, and other constructions.  Participants will explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering and architecture. 
    Session 1: Engineering FUNdamentals with LEGO
    Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as arch bridges, skyscrapers, motorized cars, and the Battletrack! A Play-Well instructor will challenge new and returning students to engineer at the next level.

    Session 2: Robotics
    Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using the LEGO WeDo system. Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and the names of robot components.  Work in small groups to complete several projects using tilt and motion sensors.  This is a great way to prepare young Robotics enthusiasts for our more advanced Robotics programs.

    Session 3: Minecraft Build with LEGOPLEASE NOTE NEW SESSION DATES and LOCATION!!
    Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO®! Build engineer-designed projects such as a motorized Creeper, a portal to the Nether, and a moving Minecart! Create your favorite Minecraft objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Whether you are new to Minecraft and LEGO or a seasoned veteran, you'll be hooked on the endless creative possibilities.

    Honeycode is a computer coding class. Students in grades 3rd through 5th will program a video game using Scratch, while developing skills in problem solving, sequencing, logic, and engineering. This is an introduction to coding course, so there is no previous experience necessary. Students will be using Makey Makeys to program and build their own hands-on interactive game controller. Students will also engage in unplugged programming challenges to reinforce the concepts they learn. All participants will end the session with a USD drive of their Scratch video game.
