Gifted and Talented Students (GATE)

The Folsom Cordova Unified School District serves identified Gifted and Talented students (GATE) in grades 3 - 6 through a program based on differentiated learning. Carl Sundahl teachers in Grades three through five are GATE certified. GATE identified students are clustered in groups of 5 - 8 in classrooms of twenty students and to a maximum of 15 within classrooms or more students. This clustering allows for flexible grouping within the classroom as well as with other classes. It is our goal to provide appropriate educational challenges for each child. 

At the beginning of the year, the teachers of GATE students will set up parent/student/teacher conferences to help set goals for the year which will guide each child's differentiated learning. Differentiation allows students not just to learn more curriculum at a rapid rate, but to broaden and enrich their experiences, skills and thinking. 

The GATE identified children within the classroom are guided and encouraged to seek out accelerated materials, to investigate subjects more deeply, and to bring some of their own creativity and individuality to their work.
